January 2010
Happy New Year from The Knitting Hut! We have had a lovely break over Christmas, feet up and knitting! It is always good to get back to the shop and start the New Year. In this first newsletter of 2010 we have news of our shop sale, a free pattern just perfect for this time of year and news of Workshops coming up over the next few months. l hope you enjoy the newsletter, Happy Knitting, Sue
Please find below the dates for all the Click & Clack sessions up to the end of April 2010. We hope you will be able to come along and join us. We were unable to hold the knitting group at the shop this week due to the bad weather so it is now going ahead on Thursday 14th January instead.
As Borders closed down at Christmas, Aubergine Foods have kindly agreed to host a second group on the second Thursday of each month. You do need to let us know if you want to come to the group at Aubergine Foods and the evening session at The Knitting Hut as space is limited. We welcome new members and are all pleased to see a new face and what you are knitting!! Click HERE to visit our Click & Clack webpage.

NEW WORKSHOPS AT THE HUT!!
We are starting the year with a selection of workshops, including a new Entrelac Workshop.
For those of you who would like to add a professional finish to your garments there is ‘Finishing Techniques’ on Friday 26th February. This is a really good way to find out all the different techniques you can use to give your garments that professional finish.
We also have two Sock Clinics, on Saturday 23rd January and Saturday 20th February where you can get help wherever you are with your socks. If you haven’t knitted socks before then why not have a go and join us on our series of Starting Socks workshops held over three mornings in March.
We will be tackling the interesting techniques of Fairisle and Intarsia on
our Colour Crazy Workshop on Friday 12th March and we also have a
new workshop which we are very excited about, Entrelac Knitting(see
pic on left) on Tuesday 8th March. This easy technique looks especially good
in a self striping yarn such as Noro and we have a couple of projects for you to choose from. Click HERE to see more information about these and other workshops.
We will also be scheduling dates for more workshops shortly, details to follow.
For more information about any of our workshops, please contact us.
This month we have a FREE PATTERN to start the New Year, the Poppy Beanie. This quick and easy beanie hat is knitted in Noro’s Yuzen. A double knit yarn which fades from one colour to another. At £7.95 a hank it is a great small project that really makes the most of the yarn as it only takes one hank for the hat and the flower! The colours of Yuzen are fabulous, soft and muted and when I had knitted the beanie I noticed that the reverse side really showed off the beautiful colour and texture of the yarn. Click HERE to check out the Poppy Beanie pattern on our Free Patterns page.
What are you going to knit in 2010?
We are looking forward to the arrival of Spring and Summer yarns even though there is
still snow on the ground. It will be great to have the blast of colour from the Summer
2010 ranges.
Self striping and patterning yarns continue to be popular and there are now more
available in the Summer cotton ranges in vibrant colours. Bombay (see right) was very popular last Summer and is back again this year with some new colours in the range.
With knitwear being key in all the fashion collections we have seen a move towards chunky cabled knits which are quick to make and give instant impact, as well as keeping us warm and cosy in these sub-zero temperatures.
Over the Winter we have found that sock knitting is as popular as ever, with a demand for unusual sock yarns such as hand dyes and luxury fibres.
Lace knitting also seems to be a growing trend with the intricate patterns making a challenging knit that looks fabulous when it is finished and blocked.
As for me, at the moment I am knitting baby things for my future neice/nephew due
in a few weeks time. I am just finishing a Debbie Bliss Cabled Blanket from ‘Simply
Baby’ (shown left) and am now going to start a second, smaller blanket in the same
pattern for my neice, Imogen for her dolly baby. I have also cast on a lovely little baby
cardigan ‘Cuddle’ from Louisa Harding’s ‘Kindred’, again in Baby Cashmerino and hope I can downscale the pattern to make a miniature version for Imogen. I am also finishing a lacy scarf I started for my Mum over a year ago and put down because it was tricky, now I’ve come back to it I don’t know what I found difficult about it and am whizzing along. I am also itching to start another shawl, finish a few of the pairs of socks I have on the go and start an Entrelac scarf. There is always too much knitting and never enough time! It is always great to meet people at Click and Clack and see what’s on their needles and more often than not it gives me an idea for a future project!
Don’t forget, all orders over £20 qualify for free postage and all our orders are sent by Recorded Delivery.
The Knitting Hut January Shop Sale has started!
Come along and grab a bargain with many yarns half price
We have some great new yarns in the shop, there is a fantastic new sock yarn from Aslan Trends, Santa Fe (shown right) and as you can see the colours are fantastic! It is available in 50g hanks, costs £5.95 and it takes two hanks to make a pair of socks. The yarn has a lovely twist on it which gives a great finish and a hardwearing sock.
If you didn’t get a chance to see our Christmas Window then here is a pic for you. Florence looked fab in her Reindeer disguise as you can see. The little flying Angel Mice looked beautiful floating about above her and we certainly had a very Mooey Christmas! I would like to thank everyone who helped with the window and shop decorations, I couldn’t have done it without you. We were very excited to win second prize in the Best Dressed Window competition and pic on the left shows me collecting our £10 prize which has been donated to Willen Hospice. We now have to think of something even better for next Christmas and we have a few ideas up our knitted sleeves!
