Lacy Knitting Day
Come along and join in with other knitters who are starting or knitting lace. This will be a relaxed day suitable for all knitting abilities with expert help on hand for any emergencies or concerns. If you would like to start a project on the day we will have materials and patterns on hand to choose from. Materials for a shawl are not included in the cost of the day but all yarn and needles you will need are.

If you are interested in taking part in a workshop which does not have a date yet, please click the button next to the details to let us know and we will contact you as soon as we have a date. Also if there is something you are interested in learning, please tell us. We are always looking for new things to try!
The cost of each workshop is shown and for more information, please see the box on the left hand side of the screen. Some workshops are now priced without materials to allow customers a wider choice of yarns they could use for the projects we make on our workshops. We also offer a 15% discount on all materials purchased for a workshop.
Beading & Embellishment
This workshop will teach you how to incorporate beads and decorative stitches in your knitting to create a beautiful drawstring bag, ideal for use at a special occasion! As usual, all materials will be provided and there is a wide range of yarn to choose from for your project.
Spinning Day
Come along for this fun day and learn the basic skills needed to spin yarn using a drop spindle. This fascinating craft is great fun to learn and we will be giving each participant a drop spindle to take home. If you are already a spinner, bring your wheel and Jenny will show you techniques to give your spinning a professional finish. A fun day!
Sock Clinic
Do you have second sock syndrome? Is grafting making you grit your teeth? Does turning a heel have you in a spin? Well come along to our sock clinic and get some help! In this special mini workshop we will also be passing on a few easy hints and tips to help give your socks a great finish, so even if you don’t need our help, come along and bring your socks!
This workshop is held at The Knitting Hut.
Knitting with Wire
Come along and learn the techniques needed to knit with wire and beads to create a lovely necklace and bracelet! There will be a choice of wire and bead colours so this is your opportunity to be creative and enjoy a really fun day out.

Improvers Crochet
If you have mastered the basic crochet stitches and would like to be able to read patterns, increase and decrease and start crocheting edgings, then come along and learn these skills and more with Phyl. We will be crocheting a bag and you will go home with all the materials you need to complete the project. We will also look at changing colours, crocheted edgings and flowers. If you have a pattern you would like some help with then please bring it along!
Dyeing Dabble Day
Spinner and Dyer Jennie Penfold will show you some of the many different ways to dye yarns and the effects you can get. We will be using small hanks of yarn and there will also be the opportunity to buy larger hanks of yarn to dye on the day suitable for a small project such as a pair of socks, a bag or scarf. It is inspiring listening to Jennie talk about this art and we can’t wait! Beware, this is addictive! Please bring an apron.
Finishing A Garment
Don’t worry, you don’t have to bring a garment with you to complete but we will show you all the tips and techniques you need to give your garments a professional finish. Techniques included: picking up stitches, different types of buttonholes, stitches for sewing up, three needle bind off, modified bind off, grafting, all about blocking and more. We will show you ways to make your garment look fabulous and don’t worry if there are a few mistakes, we’ll show you how to correct some of them - after you’ve finished!
Starting Socks - Warning :: You WILL become addicted!!
If you would like to attempt knitting in the round to create a pair of socks then come along on this special series of mini workshops and learn how to get started. Choose from a gorgeous selection of yarn and we will show you everything you need to know. This workshop is suitable for confident knitters who can knit and purl but have never knitted socks before. We will be covering the following:
Session 1: Casting on using double pointed needles and knitting in the round. We will work until the rib is completed and offer advice on solving potential problems.
Session 2: This session is slightly longer as we will be turning the heel of your sock and showing you ways to make a really neat and professional finish.
Session 3: Shaping the toe of your sock and grafting the toe stitches together to give an invisible finish.

Toe up socks and customising your socks
Fancy having a go at toe up socks? They are easy to knit and during the day we will show you how! Using double pointed needles, we'll knit from the toe up and show you how to make a garter stitch toe and heel. Also we will cover a few different stitches and techniques to give your socks an individual look.
Beginner’s Crochet
During the course of this workshop Phyl Christmas will show you the basics of crochet, from how to hold the hook correctly to making a chain and then going on to learn the basic crochet stitches. By the end of the day we will have made a crochet square, showing you how to crochet in the round. This is an excellent and popular workshop, so many knitting patterns these days also include a bit of crochet, so why not have a go!
Lacy Edgings and Shawl Knitting
If you would like to have a go at more complicated lace patterns then come along and Lucy will show you how to make a lacy edging and talk about how to construct a shawl. If you fancy starting a shawl on the day then there will be patterns and yarn so that you can make a start. This workshop is suitable for confident knitters. We will be following charts.
Felting Fun
If you fancy having a go at Felting but need a bit of encouragement to put your precious knitting in the washing machine, then this is the workshop for you! On the day we will be making felted flowers and starting a bag which you will have the confidence to felt when you get home. We will be using different techniques to decorate your knitting and the finished flowers.
Colour Crazy
If you would like to have a go at knitting with more than one colour at a time then come along and learn the interesting techniques of ‘Fairisle’ and ‘Intarsia’. It’s not as hard as it looks once you know how to do it! We will be using a chart to make a useful little bag using both Fairisle and Intarsia techniques. You will be given a list of materials required for this day when you book your place.
Beginners Knitting Day
We are very excited about our Beginners Knitting Day, we have taught so many new knitters the basics this Winter and a lot of people returning to knitting after a long break visiting the shop at the moment that we have scheduled a Beginners Knitting Day. We can move at your pace so don't worry if you have limited knitting skills. We will cover the basic stitches, casting on and casting off and can move on to other techniques useful to you depending on your ability. For those who would like to try a following a pattern we will have a simple pattern to start you off. All materials provided.

Entrelac Knitting
If you would like to learn a new skill and try a really interesting technique which looks great then come along on our Entrelac Knitting Day! This technique produces a neat basketweave effect which looks even better when you use a yarn which changes colour like Noro, as you can see from the picture (left). There is a choice of a bag or scarf project for this workshop.

Cost: £30 per session
Materials: A choice of projects and yarn is available, needles are also required.
Workshop places are between £30 and £40 each depending on the workshop.
Day Workshops run from 10am - 3pm
All our day long workshops are held in a light, airy conservatory. Full directions will be provided when you book.
The cost of the workshop includes morning coffee and cake, a lovely home-made lunch and afternoon tea.
Please let us know if you have any special dietary requirements.
Morning Coffee and cake will be served at half day workshops.
In most cases, materials can be bought separately and we are pleased to offer a 15% discount on all items purchased for a workshop.
There will be a maximum of 6 - 8 participants on each workshop to ensure everyone gets the most out of the day.
Payment is required in full to reserve your place. If you are unable to attend a refund will be issued if we can fill your place.
